No pantry no garden, box of staples under the bench, 60 minutes
Laura i really keen to get going misses the protein....
Laura is doing hibachi roasted potatoes. She is also making ricotta and champagne pickled onions she got the idea from baking potatoes in the soil they were grown in.

Judges talking about what they would make. Desserts are mentioned, quiches, tarts, etc. durians are not high on the list

Sarah thinks that Simon will have this as he is used to vegetarian meals. she isnt! play to her strengths good at balancing flavours...... drag flavour from the vegies... roasted spuds brown butter and lemon emulsion pickled onions...

Poh making a lemon meringue cake. She would like to use the durian because of her culture but thinks she would be safer without using it.
Jock & Andy questioning her being safe.

Jock is suggesting Lemon Drizzle cake. apparently he adores it
Simon back story ...... could it be an omen?
something with onions and champagne was what I got out of all that. I couldn't quite figure out what he was on about but an onion is charred so far.
Simon is doing a potato mousse.

sara says she is making potato and onions ha ha caramelising the onions lemon juise salt pepper vinegar and more butter.. mmmmm

Laura same thing but wants to enhance it to make it fine dining.... butter sauce charred onions,,,, ricotta... jock says it is a lot yes it will all have a place make sure it does he says

simon talks about the fatty element of the spuds.... mel blathers.... boring..... he is making a potato mousse.... he does explain but it is too hard to understand........ but he is happy with it....

Poh making her meringue now. and on and on and on you know poh! mel blathers about durian this time... oh do be quiet...


Laura's ricotta not working. oh dear.. not one curd forming.... something is wrong...
Making another batch to try and see if it works. less fat this time,,,..she might be better leaving it out as Jock advised

15 minutes to go.

Sarah wants to have a rustic, elegant, inviting dish. spuds onto the grill.... wants them to blacken and char with a smoky flavour.... She is happy when she has tasted her onions.

Laura's potatoes out of the grill and now in the oven. she doesnt think she has time to do anything else.... but all the butter..... omg.....

Taking a swig of the champers.
Poh thinks she has forgotten something as she isn't frazzled.
she probably has as she isn't pushing to last second in the oven
ock wants to know what is going on because she is organised.
It is a rare occurrence for her to actual be ready.

Simon is squeezing a ricing thing --- his words.
Simons potato didn't look that smooth going into the gun thingy
I love the word thingy if you don't quite no what to call it.


Jock making Simon doubt himself, and Jock says the mousse's texture is like gravel.
Simon is now straining the mousse through many thingys but it is still grainy. he is upset... he worked so hard sieve sieve muslin..........nope..... so now pouring it itno some steel thing.. ( lol)

sarah roasts grapes on the hibachi too.. sweet to break acidity


mmm simons potato skins look scrumptious.. he adds kale to the dish for texture and colour..omg is he gonna burn the kitchen down?

5 minutes to go.
laura's ricotta has worked ... now waits on spuds...... she cuts em in half.. and replaces in oven
Laura's potatoes just look like big potato wedges.

so funny, Poh had half the cake blow torched and 10 seconds to go, and suddenly it is all perfect

Poh first. I actually don't mind the look of her cake.
it does look very tasty
Pho’s cake looks delish
I don't like meringue, but as she was making up everything I thought it looked great.
I have noticed that a lot tho, nothing on a plate and suddenly there is a beautiful creation there in seconds ... wish I could dish up meals that fast that looked that good


Jock says he had a child's sized portion. He loved the cake. Delicate, fluffy, lemon curd, great.
Mel says the lemon curd like liquid sunshine.…
and Andy "doesnt like cake"

but it was still a safe dish
That is possibly her downfall, she didn't take a chance, but when the other 3 all did the same potato and onion she does have a point of difference.

Simon and the gravel mousse is next.
He is very unhappy with his dish. Roast onions, champagne grapes and potato mousse.
so different from what he planned he says.. not even sure if it looks good.. I think it does
mel thought there were some lovely elements, but.needed a bit more don't beat yourself up about it
Everyone thought it was Simons to win, and that puts extra pressure on him
Jock says Simon about 7 times. Loved the flavours altogether and he loved where it was going
Andy says just shrug it off and come back another day.

Sarah now. Sweet & Sour Onions,potatoes, grapes and some other things. it looks like somethig I would make.. yummy sunday night food...
very high in acidity says Jock good textturally... maybe the way you cooked the spuds.... boiling and then the hibachi and it soaked up all the lemon and that is all anyone could taste
alas There was very little positive said for Sarah which was sad. Even Simon got his positive comments.

well i think it looks nice
she says she is happy with all the elements
so they eat
andy loves it flavous and textures
mel enjoys the spuds.. lots of textures ricotta is good. simpe and complex
Jock liked it but didnt love it his spud a bit dry.. loved the ricotta but not really right for this dish... oh shut up Jock

Poh making sour dough bread with fruit butter. Italian roots, honey proscuitto and cheese
Khanh has 3 cheeses. Loves oozy cheese toasties
I love toasties especially in Winter.
He is also using sour dough and a cheese lace? masses of cheese Khanh doing a cheese lace according to Mel

Callum is doing mushroom and cheese, anchovies cos Andy loves em too..
He is doing a jaffle..
Mel says butter everywhere possible
Andy says all 3 jam flavour in

Ooey gooey cheese!!

Andy says crust is perfect
Mel says brushing the anchovy butter is great. Nice combo of cheeses
Jock says jaffle joy the great thing with jaffles is that it is all enclosed.
